10 Oct Wineries in the Hunter Valley for Sparkling Wine
Our 5 favourite wineries in the hunter valley for sparkling – and why we love them
Loved by locals and wine enthusiasts worldwide, the Hunter Valley is one of the flagship wine regions of Australia. Known for varieties such as Semillon and Shiraz, it is also renowned for its stunning countryside and excellent food. The perfect weekend getaway!
CLINQ is situated on the Central Coast, meaning we are lucky enough to be only a short drive from this popular wine region (hello weekend wine tasting trips!). We LOVE wine, so it was no great hardship for us to do a little (ahem!) research into some of the best wineries for sparkling wine in the Hunter region.
Sparkling wine is traditionally considered a special occasion wine, though recently, it has become a focus for food pairings and everyday drinking. And rightfully so, because every day, and every glass of wine should be celebrated!
The Hunter Valley may have more of a reputation for bold Shiraz and buttery Chardonnay, but there is also a community of estates that specialise in superb sparkling wines.
Below is a list of our Top 5 Wineries in Hunter Valley for sparkling wine. These estates have breathtaking views, stunning cellar doors, and an array of venues to complement their premium wines. We have done the research, so you can enjoy the wine!
First on our list of top 5 wineries in the Hunter Valley for sparkling wines is Peterson House. This winery is a revered sparkling wine specialist, and their very fitting motto is ‘Life’s flat without bubbles’. We couldn’t agree more!
Peterson House offers a sophisticated range of sparkling wines, from blush, rose to museum release, guaranteed to please most palates.
Peterson House makes a fantastic weekend getaway. With its relaxed atmosphere, beautiful grounds and wonderful sparkling wines, it is the perfect place to relax and get away from it all.
The excellent on-site Restaurant Cuvee features modern Australian cuisine with an oyster bar if you are looking for a quick bite or indulgent entree. Renowned for its famous ‘bubbly breakfast’, it’s the perfect place to start your day, and if you have a sweet tooth, we thoroughly recommend the on-site chocolate shop – delicious!
With its breathtaking views, the estate makes a stunning wedding venue. You can choose to have the ceremony in either the on-site chapel or outside with the option of catering from Restaurant Cuvee.
Tyrrell’s Wines has a long history dating back to 1863. Before you visit, it is well worth reading the detailed family history on their website to understand its rich history and soak up its decades of wine-producing experience.
Despite being highly experienced and notably decorated, Tyrrell’s remain humble, producing decadent but affordable wines.
We recommend taking a tour of the old oak vats and the historic red cellar which is still in operation. Afterwards, guests can visit the old ironbark hut that Edward Tyrrell lived in during the birth of the estate. You can find a list of their wine experiences here.
Tyrrell’s sparkling wine selection is French-inspired, remaining true to the origins of sparkling wine. Their impressive portfolio includes the NV 1858 Cuvee Brut, NV Chardonnay Pinot Noir Brut, and the NV Ashmans Brut (our favourite).
Visiting Tyrrell’s, makes you feel as though you are stepping back in time to the beginning of one of the Hunter Valley’s oldest estates. A very worthwhile experience.
Leogate Estate sits at the foot of Brokenback Range and boasts impressive views, a spectacular wedding venue, restaurant, tasting rooms and accommodation. With so many celebrations celebrated at their venue, it’s no wonder they have a rather excellent reputation as sparkling wine specialists.
Their highly sought-after and awarded wedding venue the Crystal Room, has a stunning backdrop against the Brokenback ranges, winning the NSW Regional Wedding Caterer of the Year Award in 2015, as well as other multiple Bride’s Choice awards.
Leogate Estates sparkling wine portfolio includes the Libertine Frizzante Blanc and the Libertine Frizzante Rouge; both sweet with delightfully tropical notes.
Established in 1967, Hungerford Hill focuses on making true-to-region and authentic wines that are too good to miss!
Your cellar door tasting will be led by winemaker Bryan Currie; who better to represent the wines than the winemaker himself?
For a truly amazing winery adventure, gather your friends for the Epic Tasting Experience. After being greeted with a glass of sparkling wine, this mini-degustation includes five Hungerford Hill wines matched perfectly to gourmet canapés prepared by the award-winning two-hatted Muse Restaurant chefs. What better way to indulge your senses whilst in this beautiful location?
There is also a sculpture courtyard where you can relax and enjoy a glass of award-winning wine in true al fresco style!
Located in the heart of the Hunter Valley, Ridgeview offers a complete wine experience with a beautiful cellar door, restaurant, and private self-contained rental cottages. A popular location for tastings, events, weddings, and weekend getaways.
The estate’s sparkling portfolio includes a sparkling Pinot Noir, Chardonnay classic, traditional Cuvee, and sparkling Shiraz. We love the sparkling Shiraz for Christmas celebrations because it’s full of festivity, and the one red that you can drink chilled. Perfect for an Australian Christmas!
To complete your visit, why not dine at Ridgeview Restaurant which overlooks the Little Gully Vineyard. The restaurant’s eclectic and delicious menu is inspired by Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine making it the perfect place to dine with family and friends.
